Frederick "Fred" Glade

Frederick "Fred" Glade, age 86 of Hastings, died peacefully Wednesday evening, February 1, 2017, at Regina Medical Center in Hastings, following a recent illness. Frederick Edward, the son of Erwin and Ella (Bremer) Glade, was born on July 8, 1930, in Ocheyedan, Iowa. Following his graduation from Ocheyedan High School with the class of 1948, Fred began working with his dad building churches. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and received an honorable discharge in 1954. Fred then returned to working with his dad prior to continuing his education, first at South Dakota State University and eventually graduated with his undergraduate from Mankato State University. He then attended Bemidji State and received his Masters Degree. On August 4, 1962, he was united in marriage to his lovely bride, Carol A. Cowdin, in Janesville, MN, and settled in Hastings. Fred built the house he and Carol lived in and were blessed with three children, seven grandchildren and fifty-three years of marriage before her passing on January 15, 2016. Fred began teaching in the Hastings School District in 1960 and fully retired in the early 1990s. His passion for the school district was shown in the dedication to his many students education and work skills experience. Fred enjoyed fishing, especially at his favorite spot on Ghost Lake in Ontario, Canada, as well as playing cards, visiting car museums and Presidential Libraries with many of his lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gordon; and by his wife, Carol. Fred is survived by his three children, Cristopher Glade of Hastings, Cara (Rick) Lane of Rochester and Cayla (Steve) Rother of Farmington; his seven grandchildren, Caden, Claire, Rylan, Owen, Ella, Josephine and Millie; his three siblings, Eugene Glade, Joel Glade and Karen Schroeder; his many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends. Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2017, at St. Philips Lutheran Church in Hastings, with Reverend Greg Geier officiating. Private family interment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, at a later date. Visitation will be held at church on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Freds family requests memorials be made to St. Philips Lutheran Church or to the Hastings Public School Foundation in his memory.
