Frank Truax

Frank Truax Sr., age 86, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by the love of his two favorite girls, his wife and daughter on October 16, 2016. Frank was born August 31, 1930 to Richard and Mathilda Truax in Hastings. He married the love of his life, Judith Saarela on January 6, 1951 at St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Hastings and he was a lifelong resident of Hastings, dedicated to serving the public as a firefighter for most of his working career. Frank was a self-employed barber for many years until he took a job as a full-time fireman and served the Hastings community in the role of Assistant Fire Chief for over a decade. He continued his barbering with a shop in his home and went to work at Koch refinery as a safety and fire inspector where he worked until his retirement. Frank was a dedicated family man and loved playing and singing along to county western music. He also enjoyed golfing, traveling in his RV and playing cards with friends and family. Grampa Frank loved doing wood working projects in the garage and giving away the finished projects to his children and grandchildren. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, his six brothers and his son Garth. He is survived by his bride of 65 years, Judy; daughter, Deb Doffing (Tom); son Rick (Kim) all of Hastings; son, Frank Jr. (Connie) of Antioch, CA; sister, Mary Lou Frendrick (Dick) of Stoughton, WI. Frank is also survived by 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, who were all a proud topic of conversation for him. A Memorial Gathering, will be held Thursday (10/20) from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings.
