Francis "Franny" J. Langenfeld

Francis "Franny" Langenfeld, age 83 of Hastings, died peacefully on Sunday morning, April 8, 2018, at Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Prescott, Wisconsin. Francis Joseph, the oldest child of Henry and Eleanor (Foss) Langenfeld, was born on August 9, 1934, in Ravenna Township, Dakota County. Following his graduation from Hastings High School with the class of 1952, Franny enlisted in the United States Army and served in Europe during Post WWII Reconstruction. On return to stateside, he met his future bride, Carol Ann Gross, on a blind date. They were married on October 12, 1957, in Hayfield, Minnesota, and were blessed with five sons. Franny was a longtime carpenter and home builder in the Hastings area. He loved hunting, fishing, playing cards, a good cup of coffee, building furniture, and spending time at the cabin on Big Dummy Lake near Cumberland, Wisconsin. Franny was a member of the Knights of Columbus 1600 and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, both in Hastings. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol; son, William; three sisters, Elvira, Dorlaine, and Janet; and by two brothers, Loran and Ralph. Franny is survived by his children, Michael (Denise), Joel (Karen), Alan (Tammy), and Dean (Mellissa); grandchildren, Nathan, Betony, Andrew, Kiaya, Kaylee, Katrinda, Trenton, and Cade; one great grandson, Asher; siblings, Patricia Schmitz, Ronald (Sharon) Langenfeld, Myron (Edie) Langenfeld, and Stanley (Patty) Langenfeld; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father Michael Barsness officiating. Private family interment will take place at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings, and will continue for one hour prior to Mass at church on Wednesday morning. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
