EVELYN LAURA (NELSON) HOLTZE
Evelyn Laura Holtze, age 94, of Rosemount, Minnesota, passed away on June 17, 2026. She was born on January 13, 1932, in Mauston, Wisconsin, to William and Violet (Jorgenson) Nelson.
Evelyn often shared the story of her younger brother, Norman Martin Nelson, who was born the day before her thirteenth birthday. She always remarked that he was the best birthday gift she could ever receive.
A gifted student, Evelyn graduated as Salutatorian of the Tomah High School Class of 1950. She earned her degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1954 and began her career as a kindergarten teacher in Eau Claire and South Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
On June 12, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Clarence E. “Bud” Holtze. Together they built a loving home and shared 58 years of marriage before Bud's passing in 2014.
Evelyn is lovingly remembered by her children, David (Mary) Holtze, John (Julia) Holtze, and Nancy Holtze; and by her cherished grandchildren, Laura, Jack, Mia, Madison, Petra, Meghan, and Bear. She is further survived by her brother, Norman (Evon) Nelson; sister-in-law, Jean (Wayne) Wilcott; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bud Holtze; her parents, William and Violet Nelson; sisters-in-law Janice (Sprague) Nelson, Irene (Holtze) Knutson, and Janice (Holtze) Smith; brothers-in-law Richard Knutson and Terry Smith; and nephew Steven Knutson.
Evelyn lived a happy and full life centered on family, faith, learning, and service. She enjoyed travel, genealogy, golf, reading, teaching, spending time at the family cabin, and making memories with loved ones. Curious about people and the world around her, she visited all 50 states and several countries during her lifetime. A prolific reader, Evelyn belonged to multiple book clubs and read thousands of books. She also faithfully read the newspaper each day and remained engaged with local, national, and world events. Known for her thoughtful nature and nonjudgmental listening, she took a sincere interest in others and made people feel valued.
Among Evelyn's greatest gifts was her ability to make each of her grandchildren feel uniquely loved and valued. Whether attending a sporting event, celebrating academic achievements, listening to a musical performance, or simply spending time together, she was fully present, offering encouragement, admiration, and unwavering support. Each grandchild knew they held a special place in her heart.
Throughout her life, Evelyn volunteered through her church, schools, and community. Her life was richly blessed with faith in God, a loving family, and treasured friends.
In remembering Evelyn, she would ask you to reach out in kindness: write a note, make a phone call, hug someone dear to you, or read a book to a child.
