Eugene W. Murphy

Eugene W. Murphy, age 78, of Hastings, died Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Augustana Health Care Center.Eugene was born March 5, 1930 in South Milwaukee, WI to Mathias and Clara (Schommer) Murphy. He had served in both the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and also in the Air Force. He was a member and Past Commander of the Hastings V.F.W.Post. Eugene married MargaretTeuber on November 7, 1959 in New Trier. He was a former employee of Brockway Glass in Rosemount and Smead Manufacturing in Hastings.Eugene was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Robert, and brother Charles. He is survived by his wife Margaret; children Mark Murphy of Hastings, Mary (Vince) Pommerening of Cottage Grove, Sue (Pat) Kuplic of Farmington, Kathy Murphy of Prescott, WI and Jim Murphy of Farmington; 3 grandchildren CassieandBriana Seelen, and Nicole Pommerening; 3 step-grandchildren Anna, Amy, and Josh Kuplic; brother John (Mary) Murphy of Hastings; sister Margaret Thiel of Hastings, and sister-in-law Vivian Murphy.The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Abraham Georgewill be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, August 11th at the ST. ELIZABETH ANN SETON CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings. The interment, with military honors provided by the Hastings V.F.W. Lyle Russell Post #1210 will follow in the parish cemetery. The visitation will be held at the CATURIA-SMIDT FUNERAL HOME in Hastings from 4-8 P.M. Sunday, and also 1 hour prior to the service at church on Monday.
