Eugene "Jim" Rotty

Eugene "Jim" Peter Rotty, age 95 of Hastings, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday afternoon, January 2, 2018, at Regina Senior Living in Hastings Eugene Peter, the son of John and Clara (Kummer) Rotty, was born November 11, 1922, on the Rotty Family Farm where he lived a full life with his wife Shirley (Otto) and two daughters. Jim was a hard worker who spent his days farming, growing strawberries, and working at HD Hudson Mfg. Jim also served as the Chairman of Vermillion Township for over 30 years. He enjoyed taking rides around the country, listening to music, and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by siblings, Kathryn Conzemius, Leona Kimmes, Evarist Rotty, Alois Rotty, and Clarence Rotty. Jim is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley Rotty; daughters, Sue Rotty and Becky (Chuck) Mann; three granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Regina Senior Living Chapel in Hastings, with Father Thomas OBrien officiating. Visitation will be held at the chapel for one hour prior to the service on Thursday afternoon. Interment will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Cemetery. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
