Eugene "Gene" Endres

Eugene "Gene" Endres, age 92 of Hastings and formerly of Hampton, died peacefully on Friday morning, August 25, 2017, at Regina Senior Living of Hastings. Eugene Peter, the son of P. Ferdinand and Philomena (Duerr) Endres, was born on July 13, 1925, on the family farm in rural Hampton. Gene attended grade school in Hampton and helped his dad on the farm prior to enlisting in the United States Army during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, Gene was united in marriage to Anita "Lee" Meyers on September 15, 1956, at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton. Gene was a longtime construction worker and later retired from the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and being a handy man for family and friends. Gene was a current member of the VFW Post 1210 and former member and volunteer of the Hampton Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anita; and by his siblings, Bernard, Wilfred, Sylvester, Gilbert, Odelia (Joe) Schiller, and Dorothy (Martin) Schiller. Gene is survived by his children, Diane Endres, Jeff (Stacy) Endres, Mark (Lisa) Endres, Mike (Pam) Endres, and Dan (Jodi) Endres; his ten grandchildren and one great grandchild; his siblings, John (Marian) Endres, Paul (Sharon) Endres, Don (Joanne) Endres, Dave (Sarah) Endres, Robert (Diane) Endres, and Mary Jean Kasel; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings. Interment with Military Honors provided by the VFW Lyle Russell Post 1210, will be held at St. Mathias Parish Cemetery in Hampton. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings, and will continue for one hour prior to Mass at church on Tuesday morning. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
