Esther L. (Overgaard) Thue

July 31, 1929 — December 3, 2020

Esther L. Thue, age 91 of Hastings, died peacefully on Thursday evening, December 3, 2020, at United Hospital in St. Paul.

Esther Lillian, the daughter of Arne and Esther (Isaacson) Overgaard, was born on July 31, 1929, on the family farm in Luverne Township, Minnesota. Following her graduation from Glenwood High School, Esther went on to study education and later taught in a one-room schoolhouse. On October 15, 1949, Esther was united in marriage to DeLoss "Del" Thue. They moved to Hastings in 1962 where they raised their family of six children. She worked at 3M Chemolite as a Coordinator, retiring after twenty-six years of employment.

Esther was a woman of strong faith and a dedicated member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Hastings where she was active in many groups over the years. She was also extremely proud of her Norwegian heritage and belonged to Sons of Norway for many years. She and Del also took the opportunity to travel to Norway to appreciate their heritage and family history; and also enjoyed spending many years wintering in Arizona. Esther loved family gatherings and cherished the traditions they celebrated together. She was a great cook, which meant she dedicated many hours of preparing homemade meals, especially Turkey dressing & gravy, lefse, and Swedish Tea Rings, for whatever the occasion. Esther also was a great seamstress, and never passed up an opportunity to travel. Most of all, Esther cherished the time spent with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Patricia Davies and Elizabeth Wiegrefe; seven siblings; and by her grandson, Bryan Thompson.

Esther is survived by her loving spouse of seventy-one years, Del; two sisters, Ann Hansen and Marlys Myers; children, Dan (Mary) Thue, Dave Thue, Diane (Steve) Rother, and Lori (Tim) Thompson; sons-in-law, John Davies and Jerry Wiegrefe; thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren, all of whom have wonderful memories of how giving and unselfish she was; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Private family services will be held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Hastings. Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings at a later date.

A Celebration of Esther's Life for family and friends will be held at a future date when restrictions allow. Please continue to watch the funeral home's website for updated information.

In lieu of flowers, Esther's family requests memorials be made to Hastings Family Service, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church's Technology Fund, or to the Donor's Choice in her memory. Donations made to Our Saviour's will be matched by a private donor up to $1,500 dollars, and will benefit the technology upgrade fund.

Esther's family would like to especially thank the staff at Park Ridge, United Hospital and Mayo Clinic for their love and care they provided to Esther and her family.

Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
