Emeline L. Hamilton

Hamilton, Emeline 'Em' L. (Miller) age 90, of Hastings, passed peacefully at home on July 28, 2016. Born on January 27, 1926 in Red Wing, MN, the daughter of Frank and Gertrude (O'Keefe) Miller. She attended schools in Bellechester and Hastings, graduating HS in 1943. Being wartime, Em along with other graduates, went to Washington D.C. for employment with the U.S. Navy Dept., and then to Fort Hamilton, CA. She married her HS sweetheart, Calvin C. Hamilton upon his discharge from the navy August 1948 at Guardian Angels church in Hastings. After residing in Fort Campbell, KY and Clayton, WI for Cal's coaching jobs, they settled in Hastings to raise their 8 children. In addition to being a devoted mother and grandmother, Emeline was good friend, a well-loved neighbor and a dedicated volunteer. (American Legion Auxiliary, DARTS and Regina Hospital Auxiliary). She was generous and caring to whomever needed her. She was selfless in putting the needs and welfare of others before her own and a champion for social justice. Emeline loved musical events, movies and theatre arts as well as her card clubs thus forming lifelong friendships. Preceded in death by husband Calvin; parents, Frank & Gertrude Miller; sisters, Marion Peine and Bernice Sherry. Em is survived by children, Suzanne (Tim ) Johnson, Stephen Hamilton, Peter Hamilton, Karen (Robert) King, Nancy (Robert) Green, Gloria (Kevin) Trahms, Lori (Hubert) Serreyn and Ann (Bruce) Jorgenson; many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Ray (Joan) Miller; sisters, Dorothy Loesch, Jeanne McGree, Ruth Bremer & Audrey Connolly; and many other relatives and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday (8/5) at 10:30am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 2035 15th St. West in Hastings, MN. A visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at church. Burial to follow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery. Arrangements by Wise Family Funeral & Cremation Services.
