Elizabeth "Liz" Wiegrefe, age 67 of Hastings, died peacefully at home on Saturday evening, August 19, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth Ann, the daughter of DeLoss "Del" and Esther (Overgaard) Thue, was born on February 24, 1950, in Glenwood, Minnesota. Liz attended Hastings High School and graduated in the top ten with the class of 1968. She continued her education at Winona State where she met the love of her life, Gerald "Jerry" Wiegrefe; they later married on November 29, 1969, at Our Saviours Ev. Lutheran Church in Hastings. After their marriage, Liz and Jerry lived in the Twin Cities area for a short time, then in Mankato, and eventually returned to Hastings in 1978. Liz was a dedicated member and volunteer at Our Saviours Ev. Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and participated in Bible Study groups. She also enjoyed volunteering for many various Elementary School activities, cooking and reading cook books, needle point, cross-stitching, being involved in various bowling leagues, and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Davies. Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband, Jerry of Hastings; her children, Scott (Janel) Wiegrefe of Apple Valley and Jessica (Blake) Diana of Stillwater; her four grandchildren, Gabriel and Ruby Wiegrefe and Noah and Jada Diana; her parents, Del Esther Thue; her siblings, Dan (Mary Lou) Thue of Minnetonka, Dave Thue of Hastings, Diane (Steve) Rother of Eagan, and Lori (Timothy) Thompson of Inver Grove Heights; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2017, at Our Saviours Ev. Lutheran Church in Hastings, with Reverend Lloyd Menke officiating. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be held 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings, and will continue for one hour prior to the service at church on Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, Lizs family request memorials be directed to Our Saviours Ev. Lutheran Church in Hastings, or to the donors choice in her memory. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
