Elizabeth “Betty” Jean Lovejoy was born on February 22, 1941, and passed away at her home on February 3, 2026, at the age of 84.
She was the daughter of Sylvester Laurence Kuhn and Elizabeth (Sullivan) Kuhn, and was married to Ronald “Ron” Lovejoy.
Betty graduated from high school in Osage, Iowa, and later attended Marycrest College in Davenport. She continued her nursing studies in Mason City, Iowa. Over the course of a nursing career that spanned more than four decades, she cared for and touched countless lives.
Betty was a loving mother and a supportive wife, known for her quick wit and delightful sense of humor. She took quiet pride in keeping a beautiful home and yard, tending to it faithfully year after year. Her rhubarb pies were legendary; she was a formidable Scrabble player and the kind of partner everyone hoped for at the card table, especially when playing 500. She was a devoted Catholic. She never sought attention for herself, choosing instead to provide for, nourish, and lift others up, often bringing laughter along the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald “Ron” Lovejoy; her parents, Sylvester and Elizabeth Kuhn; and her siblings Phyllis Drake, Joan Guest, Fr. Richard Kuhn, Bob Kuhn, Jim Kuhn, and Sr. Mary Jeanine Kuhn.
Betty is survived by her children Lisa McGivern, Natalie Lovejoy (Jacob), and Brandon Lovejoy; her grandchildren Charlie, Veronica, Lucinda, Pieta, and Oliver; her sister Kay; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A graveside service (Rite of Committal) will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Cemetery, 3070 Vermillion Street South, Hastings, Minnesota, at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
