Elizabeth "Betty" Rother, age 85, of Hastings, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on August 9, 2016. Elizabeth Ann was born July 2, 1931 near New Trier, the daughter of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Hubert) Otto. She attended St. Marys Catholic School in New Trier. She married Leonard "Shorty" Rother on November 10, 1956 at St. Marys Catholic Church in New Trier and dedicated her life to loving and caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, baking, cooking, canning and laughing with them. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her parents; a sister, Marie Lorentz and brothers, Richard, Harold, John, Ray, William, George and Leo Otto. She is survived by her children, Sandy (Paul) Karnick of Hastings, Alan Rother of Hastings, Arlene (Dale) Stein of Cannon Falls, Jan (Doug) Larson of Inver Grove Heights and Lynn Rother of Hastings; her grandchildren, Jacob, Brandon, Aaron and Elizabeth Karnick, Sylia (Seth) Flodeen, Anna Stein, Norah and Ellah Larson; her great grandchildren, Henry and Oliver Flodeen; her brothers, Nick (Bernice) Otto, Jim (Donna) Otto and Joe (Karen) Otto; also many other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings, with Father T.J. McKenzie officiating. Interment will be held at St. Marys Cemetery,New Trier. Visitation will be held at church from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. Casket Bearers are Paul, Jacob, Brandon and Aaron Karnick, Dale and Anna Stein, Sylia Flodeen and Doug Larson. Honorary Casket Bearers are Elizabeth Karnick, Norah and Ellah Larson, Nick Otto, Jim Otto, Joe Otto and Marge Kane.Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services in Hastings.
