Eleanor S. Charlton, age 87 of Hastings, died peacefully Sunday, August 9, 2020, at Fountains of Hosanna in Lakeville. Eleanor Suzanne, the daughter of Peter and Marie (Moes) Gergen, was born on March 2, 1933, in New Trier. She attended grade school in New Trier prior to graduating from Hastings High School. Eleanor then continued her education at Court Reporting School, and on August 27, 1965, was united in marriage to Bertie Albert Ervin Charlton in Hastings. Eleanor worked her entire career in the Dakota County Court System, first as a Court Reporter, and later retired as Clerk of Probate and Juvenile Court after 35 years of service. She was a very faithful woman, and was a dedicated member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Eleanor also enjoyed needlework, and volunteering with both Regina and VFW Auxiliary's. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bertie; and by her siblings, Alois (Marian) Gergen, Helen (Martin) McCoy, Lee (Florence) Gergen, Rosella (Robert) McCoy, Paul (Lucille) Gergen, Nick (Marilyn) Gergen, and Alyce (Harold) Kieffer. Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Mary Alyce (Neal) Drake, Suzanne (Joel) Rubin, and Linda (Kevin) Gosselin; grandchildren, Catherine, Alex, Laura, Amanda, Paul, Daniel, Hannah, and Grace; great grandchildren, Owen, Lincoln, Mabel, Emersyn, and Sloan; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, with Father Matthew Shireman officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in New Trier. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation for one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning. In lieu of flowers, Eleanor's family requests memorials be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church, or Suzan G. Komen in her memory. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
