Eldon P. Place

Eldon P. Place, age 84 of Hastings, much loved husband, father, and grandfatherdied Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the United Hospital in St. Paul. Eldon was born March 21, 1927 in Beldenville, WI to Albion and Gladys (Clemetson) Place. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and married Novie Carter on May 3, 1947 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Eldon had worked as an auto mechanic for International Harvester prior to retirement. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Arlene Rein and Shirley McGinley; also 2 grandchildren, Matthew Eldon and Joy. Eldon is survived by his wife Novie; 4 children, Beverly (Robert) Geiken of Hastings, Ronald �Barry� (Judy) Place of Ellsworth, Doug and Terry Place, both of Hastings; also 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers Gordon (Mick) Place of Baldwin, WI, Wayne (Arlene) Place of Boardman, WI, and Gerald (Barb) Place of Beldenville, WI. The Funeral Service, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Menke will be held 11 A.M. Monday, December 19, 2011 at Our Saviour�s Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 West Ninth St., Hastings. Interment, with Military Honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210will be held at Our Savior�s Cemetery in Beldenville, WI. Pallbearers are Donovan Place, Jeff Redding, Darren Place, Robert Geiken, Blaine Geiken, Terry Place Jr.; honorary pallbearers are his brothers Gordon, Wayne, and Gerald Place, and brother-in-law Dallas McGinley. The visitation will be held from 3-7 P.M. Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East Seventh St., Hastings and one hour prior to the service at church.
