Elaine C. Morey

Elaine C. Morey, age 92 of Hastings, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday morning, February 16, 2022. Elaine Carol, the daughter of Clarence and Alvina (Johnson) Gunderson, was born on March 31, 1929, in Grafton, North Dakota. Following her graduation from Hoople High School, Elaine continued her education in Beauty School in Grand Forks. After meeting at a dance, she was united in marriage to Daniel Duray on November 4, 1950. After their marriage, they lived in various areas prior to settling in Hastings in 1970 where they owned the SuperValu and raised their six children. After their divorce, Elaine worked at Smeads Mfg. until retiring at the young age of 75. In 1986, she was united in marriage to William "Bill" Morey. Elaine enjoyed crafts of all kinds, and was a talented seamstress. She and Bill also enjoyed gardening on the farm and visiting casinos on a regular basis. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill and former husband, Dan; son, Tom; and by her sisters, Venise, Mavis, and Phyllis. Elaine is survived by her children, Debra (Dennis) Bauer, Barb (John) Keene, Jean (Rick) Isle, Alan (Karen) Duray, and Penny Ellingson; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Ruth and Iva; and by many other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2022, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, with Gordon Gathright officiating. Interment will be held at Old Cottage Grove Cemetery. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation for one hour prior to the service and to a reception immediately following the service, all at the funeral home on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor's choice. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
