Eilene M. Deming

Eilene M. Deming, age 83 of Hastings died Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at her home. Eilene was born February 7, 1930 in Wabasha, MN to Irvin and Florence (Lauger) Balow. She was a graduate of St. Felix High School in Wabasha and married Lawrence Rubin in 1952. Following his death in 1978, Eilene married Eugene Deming in 1984. He died in 1985. Prior to her retirement, she had worked as a medical transcriptionist at Regina Hospital in Hastings, the VA Hospital in Minneapolis and the Hastings State Hospital. Eilene was an avid sports fan and enjoyed both polka music and bowling. Eilene is survived by her son Ronald (Karen) Rubin of Hastings; grandchildren Lisa (Clay) Thompson, Bryan (Jill) Rubin amd Katie (Wayne) Litschke; great grandchildren Deven, Kiley, Kody, Jakob, Gabriella, Nolan, Jaden, Colten and Aubrey; brothers Eugene (Alvina) Balow of Frontenac, Robert (friend Sammy) Balow of Bakersfield, CA, Richard (MaryJo) Balow of Prior Lake and James (Mary) Balow of Bethesda, MD. The funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Fernando Ortega will be held 11 AM Tuesday, October 8, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. Fifteenth St., Hastings. Visitation will be held 4-8 PM Monday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. Seventh St, Hastings and one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
