Eileen D. Schommer

Eileen D. Schommer, age 86, of Hastings, died peacefully on Saturday, May 14, 2016 surrounded by her family at her home following a short illness. Eileen was born on July 31, 1929 in Empire Township to George and Alvina (Peine) Burr. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1947 and was united in marriage to Raymond C. Schommer on June 2nd, 1951 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. She retired from Smead Manufacturing on January 28, 1995 spending the remainder of her days on earth as a living example of faith and unconditional love. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Ray; siblings, George Burr and Helen Schoen. Eileen is survived by her children, Maureen (Linwood) Dillon, Susan (Keith) Slavik, and Brian (Mary) Schommer, all of Hastings; grandchildren, Christopher (Natalie) Dillon of Maplewood, Tara (Joey) Carlson of Farmington, and Kathleen (Peter) Knoll, Sheila (Matthew) Westberg, Mike (Maria) Slavik, Molly (Jeremy) Reuter, Marisa Schommer and Brett Schommer, all of Hastings. She is also survived by 10 great grandchildren, Dillon and Jake Carlson; Kylee, Libby and Grace Knoll; Whittney and Trent Westberg; Lauren and Jacob Reuter; Kate Slavik; sisters, Janet Waldbillig, Marilyn (Bill) Schommer, Luverne (John) Haberkorn, Sr. Georganne Burr, OSB; as well as many other brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and many friends, especially those at Rivertown Court. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West 15th Street in Hastings. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 18, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. AT CHURCH, and one hour prior to mass on Thursday. Interment, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery.
