E. Joann Mcnamara

E. JoAnn McNamara, age 91 of Hastings, died peacefully on Monday morning, December 10, 2018, at Regina Senior Living in Hastings. Ebba JoAnn, the daughter of John and Edna (Erickson) Melby, was born on November 7, 1927, in Hastings, MN. Following her graduation from Hastings High School with the class of 1945, JoAnn was united in marriage to Thomas “Tom” McNamara on January 7, 1956. They were blessed with six children and forty-seven years of marriage prior to his passing on August 17, 2003. JoAnn was a dedicated homemaker, enjoyed china painting and worked tirelessly with the Hastings High School Alumni Association. She was an active member at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, and spent countless hours visiting the homebound, ill, or the lonely of Hastings . JoAnn enjoyed baking, but was probably best known for her relish trays. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Lee, Russ, Janet, Beth, Lois, and Linnea; husband, Tom; and by her son-in-law, Chad Greiner. JoAnn is survived by her loving children, Daniel (Jodi) McNamara, Bruce (Sandra) McNamara, Gary (JoAnn) McNamara, Jeff (Ann) McNamara, James (Denise) McNamara, and Jane (Bill) Shomion; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Joyce Hoffman; and by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2018, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Hastings, with Reverend Doug Duin officiating. Private family interment will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 16th , and from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Monday morning, all at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hastings Family Service or to the donor’s choice in memory of JoAnn.
