Duane L. Herman

Duane Herman, age 89, of Hastings, MN peacefully and comfortably passed away at home on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

Duane was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1935 in Denmark Township to Lauren and Helen Herman. He attended Basswood Grove School. From grades 1-4, Duane was very proud to share he was the smartest in his class, but the only student in the grade at the time. Duane graduated from Hastings High School in 1953. He married his cute wife, Doris, on June 23, 1956 and they were happily married for 68 blessed years. They had five children: Patty, Pam, Tom, Bill, and Richard.

Duane was a devout Christian who centered his life around his love for Jesus. He was proud of his accomplishments including working for Dairy Home Milk Co. for 13 years while also working with his dad milking cows on the family farm and driving for Dennis Held Bus Co. He then spent the rest of his career as a proud dairy farmer. He was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserve in 1961, earned his private pilot's license in 1984, and donated over 20 gallons of blood during his lifetime. He became an ordained minister on October 5, 1997 and had the honor and privilege to officiate his daughters, Patty and Pam, at each of their weddings.

Duane is preceded in death by his wife, Doris; son, Richard; parents, Lauren and Helen Herman; siblings, Laurislee, Gordon, and Harlan; and granddaughter, Angie Malm Deberardini.

Those left to cherish his memory are his four children, Patty Herman Malm (Jerry Smith), Pam (Joe) Pardo, Tom (Linda) Herman, Bill (Samantha) Herman; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jolene, Jim, Sally, Susan, Steve, Mary, and Joyce; and other family and many dear friends.

A Visitation for Duane will be on Sunday, September 21, 2025 from 10am to 12pm at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion Street, Hastings, MN, with a Celebration of Life at noon and reception to follow.

Interment will be at Cottage Grove Cemetery.
