Douglas Roy Phillips

Douglas “Doug” Roy Phillips, age 80, of Burnsville, MN, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 4, 2025, in the Regent of Burnsville, with his loving wife by his side.

Doug was born in Minneapolis to Roy and Doris Phillips on November 14, 1944. He attended Richfield High School and graduated in 1962. Doug went on to attend the University of Minnesota for 2 years. Post-college, Doug worked as a grocery store manager for Country Club Market, where he met his wife, Carolyn.

Following his 34-year managerial career and raising their family, he had a strong desire to return to school, where he earned a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Accounting and Business Administration from Metro State University in the graduating class of ‘95. In addition to working as a manager, he also enjoyed painting for many years with his brother Keith. These funds allowed Doug to achieve his goal of helping his children pay for their college tuition. Other painting adventures included repainting a majority of the inside of Berean Baptist Church while briefly being a part of the janitorial staff. This eventually led to 13 years of painting alongside his son-in-law, Kurt.

He enjoyed spending his time reading, watching sports such as the NFL, NHL, and NASCAR, and watching movies. Participating in the Country Club broomball team, the annual Phillips Turkey Bowl, and going up north to Itasca State Park with his growing family were some of his most cherished memories because he could finally kick his feet up, relax, and do his favorite thing in the world, which was to read a book!!

Doug is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children, David (Kim) Phillips, and Michelle (Kurt) Student; grandchildren, Matthew (Meghanlee) Phillips, Lauren Phillips, Kayla Student, Danielle Phillips, and Megan Student; great-grandchildren, Mariella and Magdalene Phillips; brothers, Gary (Katie), Keith, and Blair (JoAnne) Phillips; nieces, Kathy Phillips, Laurie (John) Kedrowski, Ann (Tim) Sobotka; nephew, Jim (Kelly) Phillips.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Doris Phillips, and by his brother, Randy Phillips.

A visitation for Doug will be held at Starkson Family ~ Anderson Chapel, 14850 Garrett Avenue, Apple Valley, MN, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.

A funeral service will be held at Berean Baptist Church, 309 County Rd 42 E, Burnsville, MN, on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 11 am with a visitation an hour prior.

Memorial donations may be made to the Heart Fund, the American Cancer Society, and the Diabetes Foundation.

Thank you all for coming to celebrate Doug’s life. He would have been truly honored by the outpouring of love and support demonstrated by everyone showing their respect, whether it be from near or afar. He lived a long and wonderful life filled with Jesus and his family.
