Douglas Keith Kirsch, age 92, of Cottage Grove, died Thursday, August 30, 2018, at Norris Square Assisted Living in Cottage Grove. A Memorial Service, officiated by Pastor Dave Barkow, will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, September 7, 2018 at Norris Square Assisted Living, 8200 Hadley Ave. So., Cottage Grove, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12 Noon. Interment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A luncheon reception will follow the Memorial Service. Doug is survived by son Jeffrey (Jacqueline) of Tacoma, WA and daughter Kristine (Paul) Morris of Hastings, MN. 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. sister-in-law Marilyn Kirsch; brothers Richard (Ramona) Kirsch of Watertown, SD; DeWayne (Diane) of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters Patricia Duffy of Fort Pierre, SD; Dorothy (Al) Stone of Venice, FL; and Sandra (Lyle) Fedt of Bryant, SD. He is preceded in death by his wife Joyce (Hovde) Kirsch; his parents, Carl "Charles" and Frances Kirsch; a son Dan Kirsch; a brother Charles; and sisters-in-law Darlene and Loretta. Doug was born on June 29, 1926, in Claire City, SD to Charles and Frances (Wenschlag) Kirsch. He lived in Kampeska, Watertown and Naples, South Dakota and Sanborn, Bellingham, Bloomington, Worthington, New Ulm, Hastings and Cottage Grove, MN. Doug worked in, managed, audited and was a business consultant for country cooperative elevators and supply cooperatives most of his life. He served in the United States Navy in WW II and was an electrician in Watertown, SD for 2 years. He was a member and Post Commander of various American Legion Posts, a member and secretary of Sanborn Fire Department as well as President of the local Community Club and Mayor of Sanborn. He taught Sunday School, confirmation and was active in Boy Scouts in places he lived. He was General Manager of Soil Conservation Field Days (Plowville) in 1958 held south of Sanborn. He served as Chairman of the Board of Education and Congregational President of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, New Ulm, MN. Doug was a member of the NSAC, National Society of Accountants for Coops. He was a group leader for the program Alpha at St. Philips Lutheran Church in Hastings, MN. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
