Hastings Chapel

Dorothy Ann (Bode) Roth died on April 30, 2025, surrounded by her family and ushered to heaven through song at the Benedictine Living Community – Regina in Hastings, Minnesota. Born on August 15, 1935, in New Ulm, Minnesota, she is predeceased by her parents Bernhard H. Bode and Sophia K. (Gieseke) Bode, as well as her older brother, Dale Bode.

Dorothy's story is one of true partnership and enduring love. She shared 67 remarkable years of marriage with her loving husband, Robert Roth, a testament to their unbreakable bond and mutual devotion. Together, they nurtured a family that grew to include their children: Joan (David) Hojnacki, Denise Roth, and Sandra Hisakuni (Mark Hennessy). Dorothy's legacy further blossomed with her grandchildren: Jennifer (Tristan) Manvilla, Michael (Lauren) Hojnacki, Leah (William Covert) Roth, Kohei (Carina Lei) Hisakuni, and Sofia (John Letsche) Hisakuni, as well as her great-grandchildren: Nolan and Bennett Manvilla, and Graham Hojnacki. Her heart also held a special place for her many beloved nieces and nephews.

As a young girl, Dorothy moved frequently and always held a soft spot in her heart for those who are on the move. Known for her impeccably clean house, she provided a soft landing and listening ear for her family and friends. Dorothy graduated from high school in Arlington, MN. In addition to being an incredible homemaker, she worked as a bookkeeper, Title I instructor, and then put her excellent sewing skills to work as a seamstress at Bridgeport Interiors. Dorothy's hands, always busy, were a symbol of her desire to contribute and create.

Dorothy found immense joy in spending time with her loved ones, particularly in helping her grandchildren discover the magic of reading, and passing on her expertise through countless sewing and crocheting projects.

Dorothy and Robert's shared love of exploration saw them traverse the breadth of the country and journey beyond its borders. Their travels were trips to both explore and maintain close family ties. Dorothy will be remembered for her grace, compassion and selfless service to her friends and family.
