Dorothy M. Dalaska, age 96 of Hastings, died peacefully on Thursday afternoon, February 1, 2018, at Regina Senior Living in Hastings. Dorothy Mary, the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Minter) Hyde, was born on September 5, 1921, in Pine Island, Minnesota. On April 13, 1940, she was united in marriage to Robert Dalaska in Le Center, and they were blessed with four children: Gene, Mike, Gary, and Kevin. Robert preceded her in death in 1989. In her younger years, Dorothy helped on the farm, as well as at a shipyard in Portland before working at HD Hudson Mfg., Ben Franklin, and Duebers in Hastings. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, needle pointing, fishing, spending time at the cabin in Finlayson, and wintering in Mission, Texas. She was a longtime dedicated member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Hastings, as well as Hastings Area Senior Center, and the VFW Post 1210 Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; granddaughter, Kimberly Dalaska; daughter-in-law, Lynn Dalaska; sister, Caroline Wilson; and by her infant brother, Edgar. Dorothy is survived by her children, Gene (Sue) Dalaska, Mike (Shirley) Dalaska, Gary Dalaska, and Kevin (Mary) Dalaska; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and by other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Hastings, with a reception following. Interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation will be held at church on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
