Dorothy Clara Girgen

Dorothy Clara (Chandler) Girgen, age 84 of Hastings, MN, passed away on April 24, 2026.

Dorothy was born on February 12, 1942 in St. Paul, MN to William and Dorothy Chandler. She grew up in Northfield, MN and attended Hastings High School.

Dorothy worked as a beautician for many years and then, as the youngest graduated high school, she went to work for Inver Hills Community College in the bookstore, which she loved.

Dorothy met Norb after he returned from the service. They were married on August 13, 1966, and raised their five kids on Norb’s family farm.

Dorothy was a kind and caring person who had a strong, Catholic faith and loved being a grandma. She enjoyed collecting agates, vegetable gardening, canning, bowling, walking, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. She was a proud member of TOPS/KOPS and loved all the members. She was also proud of the fact that her and Norb were married 60 years.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Norb; children, Beth (Greg) Hall, Barb (Dan) Winge, Sue Weiman, Rick (Lisa) Girgen and Bernie (Steph) Girgen; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Winge, Devin Weiman, Sydney Weiman, Clara Girgen, Violet Girgen, Eva Girgen and Hazel Girgen; siblings, Deloris (Jim) Partington, Maynard Chandler, Irene “Chandy” Nichols, and Shirley Lorentz; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy Chandler; and sister, Diane Moran.

A very special thank you to St. Croix Hospice and their amazing care of mom/Dorothy! They made a very difficult transition so much easier for the family. They are truly angels!

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2026 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Vermillion, MN with a visitation from 9:00 until the time of the Mass at church. Interment St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Vermillion. A luncheon reception will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s name can be made to St. Jude, St. John’s Catholic School or donors’ choice.
