Dorothy “Dot” Mary Fuchs, 86 years old, of Hastings passed away on August 4, 2025 at Benedictine-Regina in Hastings.
Dorothy was born in Hastings to Raymond and Lois Orman (McNamara) on September 13, 1938. She went to Hastings High School and graduated in 1956.
She met her future husband, Richard “Dick” Fuchs, when she was 14 years old and was introduced to him by his sister who worked with her at the Twin Kiss in Hastings. They were married in Hastings the day after Christmas in 1959.
Dorothy was born to be a nurse as witnessed by her kind, caring and compassionate demeanor. Dorothy went on to earn her RN degree in nursing from Saint Catherine University in Saint Paul. She worked as a registered nurse, first at the state hospital and then as an operating and recovery room nurse for over 40 years, both in Hastings. Dorothy was a favorite request for anyone having surgery because they were immediately comforted and reassured by her presence.
She enjoyed many sports activities including tennis, downhill and cross-country skiing, biking, swimming, running and horseback riding. Dorothy could be found sewing, gardening and canning, traveling, reading, playing bridge with her close group of friends, and fishing with her husband. She was involved in numerous activities through her church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings. Dorothy was the most loving and nurturing mom, taking her children to the library and to the nursing home to see all the old folks.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Lois (McNamara) Orman.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Fuchs; daughter, Tracy (Jim) Gannon; son, Kurt Fuchs (Ann Anaya); grandchildren, Molly Gannon (Marcus Babcock) and Jimmy Gannon, Ariel (Mathias) Spanier and Anton Fuchs (Gwen Saliares); siblings, Maureen (Leon) Rother, Jeri Langer, Michael (Mary) Orman, and Patrick (Nancy) Orman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2025 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hastings with a visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Cemetery.
Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings is handling arrangements.
