Dorothy "Elaine" Burns

Dorothy Elaine Burns, 70, of New Prague passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, at St. Francis Hospital, Shakopee. A celebration of life service will take place at Starkson Family Anderson Chapel, Apple Valley, on Saturday May 9th beginning at 10:30 AM.

Elaine’s husband, Doug, and her lifelong best friend, Debbie Smith, were at her bedside when she passed. She is also survived by son Eric, grandson David, and daughter-in-law Michal.

Elaine and Doug were married for 44 years. Starting out in a huge rented farm house in Central Indiana there were years of boating, friends, travel, and parties. Son Eric was born in 1988; Elaine loved being a stay-at-home mother and caring for Eric. Doug’s work brought the family to Minnesota and Eric to Lake Marion Elementary, Lakeville. Elaine’s volunteer work at the school turned into a teaching career. She had a special gift of reaching and helping children with additional needs. She truly loved her students and friends at Lake Marion. The kids gave her a karmic energy and driving purpose in her life.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials may be directed to Autism Speaks. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026 at 11:00AM at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel-Anderson Chapel with a visitation starting at 10:30AM.
