Donald S. Serres

Donald S. Serres, age 80, a lifelong and passionate New Trier farmer died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at his home. He was born May 4, 1928 in New Trier to William and Clara (Burr) Serres. He married Patricia Leifeld on September 9, 1950 at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Hastings. Donald served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Douglas Township Board for 32 years, a St. Mary�s Catholic Church trustee, and an avid bowler and dancer. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Loren, Jerry, LaVerne, and Leon. Donald is survived by his wife Patricia; children Carole �Snooky� (Jim) Lindberg of Cottage Grove, Kathy (Rick) Reamer of Hastings, Alan (Jill) Serres of Hastings, Michael (Becky) Serres of New Trier; grandchildren Scott, Danny, Kristi, Donny, Katie, Lynn, Andy, Josh, Dan; great-grandchildren Max, Delaney, Blake, Daphne, Charlie; brother Gerv (Gin) Serres and sister Lorraine (Bill) Matsch all of Hastings; sisters�in-law Franny Karnick, Irene Serres, and Darlene Serres. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Corey Belden will be held at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, October 25, 2008 at St. Mary�s Catholic Church in New Trier. The interment, with full military honors provided by the Hastings V.F.W. Lyle Russell Post #1210 will follow in the parish cemetery. The pallbearersare Scott Reamer, Dan Reamer, Donny Serres, Laine Matsch, Bill Serres, and Randy Serres. Honorary pallbearersare Tubby Otto, Lawrence Peine, Henry Peine, Bob Wahlstrom, Bobby Reinardy, and Jerry Weber.The visitation will be held from 4-8 P.M. Friday at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. 7th Street, and 1 hour prior to the Saturday service at church.
