Donald G. Stern

Donald G. Stern, age 81, of Hastings died April 11, 2011 at the United Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Donald was born August 27, 1929 in Hastings to Gerald and Margaret (Kordosky) Stern. He was a 1948 graduate of Hastings High School and served in the Air Force as an Airman First Class during the Korean War. Donald married Helen Johnson on June 30, 1951 in River Falls and worked as a head operator at 3-M prior to retirement. He was a member of the Hastings American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Helen. Donald is survived by his children, Daniel (Deb) Stern of River Falls, WI, Diane Stern, Debbie Stern, and Rick (Diane) Stern all of Hastings, Randy (Mike) Stern of St. Paul, and Dick (Rose) Stern of Hastings; grandchildren Josh, Nicole, Eriane, Katie, Jason and Derek Stern, Molly Wirth, and David Monroe; brothers Roy (Betty) Stern of Louisiana, Jerry (Karen) Stern of White Bear Lake, and Jack (Kathy) Stern of Hastings; brother-in-law Vernon (Dorothy) Johnson; also many other relatives and friends. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Allan Paul Eilen will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 15, 2011 at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings with visitation held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment with military honors provided by the Hastings V.F.W. Lyle Russell Post #1210 will follow in the parish cemetery. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers and his godson, Tom Stern will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
