Don Brewer

William "Don" Brewer, age 92, of Hastings, passed away at Trinity Care Center in Farmington on September 28, 2021. He was born in Mitchell, Indiana to Menlo and Novella Brewer. Don and his brother, Joe, were adopted by their grandmother, Luella Pemberton Brewer, and their grand father, Richard Brewer, as small boys. The two boys were raised by their grandparents and their aunt, Elva (Elvie) Brewer on a beef and dairy Indiana farm. At 13 years old, Don and a friend went to Texas to break horses. When Don graduated high school, He worked on the tracks for the B&O Railroad, plus worked on the farm. Don became a Marine three years after he married Barbara. He was very proud of both. Don and Barbara moved to Chicago, Illinois and Don became a clerk for the Burlington Northern Railroad. After almost 20 years Don was transferred to St. Paul, Minnesota, where Don retired. Don loved horses, shooting pool, and meeting people. Even with all the changing times, Don stayed true to his cowboy ways. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; parents; daughter in law, Tracey; brother, Joe; and sister, Marg. William is survived by his children, Claudia, Ellen, Randy, and Denise (Ray). He will be missed greatly by his 8 grandchildren, David (Dia), Nicole (Ryan), Heidi (Trevor), Jesse, Brad, R.J., Clint (Tanya), Crystal; and 9 great-grandchildren, Trinity, Faith, Hannah, Natalie, Wyatt, Jaina, April, Danielle, and Ryder; and many other relatives and friends. A Funeral Service, officiated by Gordon Gathright, will be held on Friday (10/15) at 10:00 a.m. at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St., Hastings. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A visitation will also be held the evening prior, Thursday, October 14 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m at Starkson funeral home. Interment, Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
