Dennis G. Bauer

Dennis G. Bauer, age 60 of Hastings, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday evening, November 2, 2017, following an eleven year battle with Multiple Myeloma Cancer. Dennis Gerald, the son of Mathias and Grace (Barkdull) Bauer, was born on March 5, 1957, in Hastings. Dennis attended Hastings High School and was a longtime employee of Spectro Alloys until his health forced him to retire. On August 13, 1977, Dennis was united in marriage to Linda Greenlee at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion. Dennis was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved spending time outdoors. He will forever be remembered for being the person that was always willing to lend a hand to others for whatever they would need. Dennis and Linda farmed, milked cows, and later raised Paint Horses for many years. Most of all, Dennis loved going to the lake, taking annual fishing trips with Chris, and spending time at the cabin near Aitkin. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step siblings, Edward (Bev) Caneff, Danny Caneff, and Betty (Al) Fox; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Caneff; and by his Godfather, Jerry Johnson. Dennis is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Christopher; his sister, Lenora Youle; his step siblings, Larry Caneff, Tim (Beach) Caneff, and Jan (Richard Sr.) Hicks; his Godmother, Tillie Johnson; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. Visitation will be held at church on Thursday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Private family interment will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
