Delphine Madonna Wojciechowski Medcraft, aka “World’s Best Mom,” aka “Grandma Dell”, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 17th, 2020. She loved deeply and will be missed by many. Born in the UP of Michigan and living her first five years in a rustic log cabin gave “Gma Dell” a start of modest beginnings. Being truly appreciative of life made her an extremely generous person by sharing her time, energy, talent and treasure. She loved spending time at Sharing and Caring Hands, Card Club, Children’s Liturgy, and as an Election Judge. Through her work at the Parochial School and the Hastings Courthouse she acquired joy and life-long friendships. Not much of a “me-talker,” Gma Dell was a master conversationalist, always making people feel loved, accepted, and understood. A devout Catholic, Grandma Dell raised her family in the Faith. Her spirit of volunteerism through her church strengthened many relationships and continued to grow her connection to a higher power. As a celebration of her Faith, Grandma Dell traveled to Rome on a pilgrimage. Here, she was within arms-reach of Pope Francis. Dell married the love of her life 60 years ago. Together, she and Bob were blessed with raising five good human beings. Dell loved to say, “Our family is just the right mix of chaos and love.” Always happy to have an excuse to throw a party, Grandma Dell loved loud taco feeds, backyard hangouts, and joyful holiday celebrations including her annual Halloween chili feed and Christmas in July with the Woji family. These gatherings provided so many happy memories and traditions. Her greatest role in life was being a grandma to her seven creative, free-spirited grandchildren. Together, they cherished special time with her and shared memories of Camp Snoopy, birthdays featuring their favorite cakes, crazy road trips, and big bowls of ice cream— no matter the time of day. Gma Dell moved confidently through her path in life with the guidance of the love of God, her family, and her community. Delphine joins her beloved family and friends in heaven, including her husband, Robert Allen, Parents, Julia (Szelonski) and Walter Wojciechowski, baby brother Joseph (Butch), Mother-in-Law, Edna (Fietz) Thomas, and best friend and neighbor of over 50 years, Pat Fox. Many people are looking forward to reuniting and celebrating with her in heaven— Children, Bobby (Gretchen), Mary, Peggy (Chris), Andy, Mike (Tammy); Grandchildren, Nate, Claire, Julianne, Olivia, Paul, Walter, Marty; Loving Woji Sisters, Prudy, Judy, and Rosi; and her dear friend, Marie Smead. Private family funeral services (as Gma Dell would say “due to this COVID crap") are being coordinated by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel in Hastings. Family and friends are invited to view the service on the Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel Facebook page at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 2020. In lieu of flowers, Grandma Dell requests donations to United Way of Hastings - Food 4 Kids or SEAS Sharing and Caring Hands Ministry in her memory. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
