Daryl Alfred Plath passed away on February 13, 2020 at the age of 89. Daryl was born in Fairmont, Minnesota on January 4, 1931 to Alfred and Mabel Plath. He attended country school districts 11 & 35. He graduated from Fairmont High School in 1949. In 1951 he graduated from Tech school in Chicago. He was inducted into the Army in October 1951 and received basic training February thru April of 1952 at Camp Chaffe, AR. Daryl was united in marriage on April 19, 1952 to Maribelle (Yeager) a high school classmate. Daryl saw combat while assigned to HQ Battery IX Corps artillery in Korea. Honorable discharge August 1953. Daryl continued his military service in the 3rd BG 3 RD INF USAR as 1LT 1953-1962 and LTC in the 47th INF DIV MN ARNG 1963-1984. Mr. Plath worked as a TV tech from 1953-1957 and joined the Fairmont police department. During his service with the FDP he attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1965. Daryl attended and graduated from Inver Hills Community College with an AA degree in Law Enforcement. In 1968 he accepted the position of Chief of Police in Hastings, Minnesota, serving 25 years and retiring in 1993. He served on the Board of Directors of the MN Chief of Police Association from 1969 to 1993. Serving as President of the MN Chief of Police Association from 1974-1975. He served on the Board of Directors of the Dakota County Recovery Center in Hastings from 1974 to 2019. Daryl was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and competition pistol shooting. Daryl was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred C. and Mabel E. Plath; mother of his children, Maribelle Plath; son, Barry Plath; brother and sister-in-law, Lyle and Stella Plath. Daryl is survived by his children, Roger (Sally) of St. Paul, Russ (Deb) of New Brighton, Kelly (Sue) of Blaine, Jeanneane (Bill) Huberty of Lake Nebagamon, WI, and Corey of St. Paul; grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, sister-in-law, Betty Yeager Holl; and former wife, Rosemary Harwood Plath. A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 20 at 11:00 am at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St in Hastings. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery in Fairmont, Minnesota at 4:00 pm on Thursday.
