Darlene Kay Burr

Darlene Burr, age 69 of Hastings, died peacefully on Sunday morning, September 10, 2017, at Augustana Care of Hastings, following an extended illness. Darlene Kay, the daughter of Samuel and Mary (OBrien) Hamilton, was born on January 6, 1948, in Hastings. On March 6, 1970, Darlene was united in marriage to the love of her life, Jerol "Jake" Burr Sr., and were blessed with eight children. Darlene was a dedicated wife and mother, and enjoyed raising her children. She also enjoyed cooking, embroidering, reading books, singing, and will forever be remembered for making the best BBQ sauce, fresh bread, and cinnamon rolls. Darlene also had a strong faith, and enjoyed her bible readings and proclaiming Gods word. As her health began to fail, Darlene made a second family at Augustana Care of Hastings, where she also enjoyed participating in every single activity they had! She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jake; her siblings, Betty Lou Deneen, Charlotte Peterson, Mary Jane Mallard, Kathleen Patricia Smith, Samuel Hamilton II, and Robert Hamilton. Darlene is survived by her children, Paul Hamilton, Gladys (Paul) Kelly, Jake Burr Jr., Sandy Burr, Sherry Burr, Stan (Shirley) Burr, Mark Burr and James (Lydia) Burr; her 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren whom she loved dearly; her siblings, Henry Hamilton, Ruth Whipple, and Thomas Hamilton; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held 5:00 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2017, at Cornerstone Bible Church in Hastings, with Pastor James Bzoskie officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at church. Private family interment at Lakeside Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Darlenes family requests memorials be directed to the Alzheimers Association in her memory. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
