Daniel Ernest Yost

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel “Dan” E. Yost, age 75, who died peacefully on August 2nd, 2025 surrounded by family at his home. He was born the son of Ernest and Helen (Hawkins) Yost in Abington, Pennsylvania on January 5th, 1950. Dan grew up in Pennsylvania, and attended Pennridge High School, graduating in 1968. Dan was an all-around athlete, playing baseball and football in high school, and in later years playing fastpitch softball. He passed down his love of sports to his three children, who he helped coach throughout the years. Dan was in the United States Air Force and was an active-duty member during the Vietnam War. He met his wife, Jackie, in 1981, when he was living in Duluth, Minnesota. They married on May 1st, 1982. He worked out of a local plumbers/pipe fitters union in Duluth until 1983, before moving to Hastings and working for 3M for over 30 years, where many knew him as “Hyway”. Dan adored his grandchildren, and almost never missed a softball game, gymnastics meet, hockey game, volleyball, basketball game, or school events.

Dan was known for his immaculately kept yard and vehicles, sense of humor, love of animals, strong work ethic, love of video games, his after-work beer, and was a jack of all trades.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Helen; Jackie’s mother, Irene; brother, Phillip, brother-in-law, Chip. Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Jackie; son, Chris (Sara); daughter, Tammy (Eric) Anderson; son, Dan (Brandie); sister, Teddi; brothers, John (Caren) and Pete (Patty); adored grandchildren, Drew, Sydnee, Addyson, Nola, Audryana, and Clara; and many other dear relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 3:00PM at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel with a visitation starting at 1:00PM. There will be refreshments throughout the visitation and following the service. Private Family Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota at a later date. Arrangements are with Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel.
