Daniel Schneider

October 27, 1945 — June 15, 2010

Daniel P. Schneider, 64, beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor, passed away peacefully June 15, 2010, at his home in Hastings, surrounded by those who loved him. Dan battled non-hodgkins lymphoma for over 11 years. Dan was born to Paul and Frances Schneider of Hastings in 1945, both of whom preceded him in death. Dan graduated from Hastings High School in 1963, and was employed by Profile Extrusions (Intek). Dan was the proprietor of Schneider Custodial Service for 35 years and employed by City & County Credit Union (St. Paul) for 24 years as the head of building maintenance. He remained working full time until 3 months prior to his death. Prior to being sick, Dan served as an Elder at the Hastings congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses for 30 years. He was well known for lifting the spirits of all and making those around him always feel welcome and comfortable. Although he was a humble man by worldly standards, he demonstrated the bible principles in which he believed, in the way he lived his life. He treated individuals with dignity and respect, and demonstrated in his daily life that he was there to serve and not be served. He is survived by devoted and cherished wife of 37 years, Jeanne (Majetich). Daniel and Jeanne have two children, Maria and Mark, who were his pride and joy, and one granddaughter Isabella, born to Mark and daughter-in-law Ashley (Boben); Sisters Elaine Jones, Paulette Adkins, and Carol Boie (Steve); Mother-in-laws Betty Majetich, and Mary Ulcher (Biwabik); and a host of relatives and friends.Dan brought out the best in those around him as both a motivator and supporter, and left everyone who met him better for having had the opportunity of knowing him. He touched people's lives with his warm smile and kind heart. His words were sincere and his affection genuine; his humor, wit and charm brought a smile to anyone around him. He was understanding and accepting of people, without pretention or judgment, and always made himself available to anyone needing help. He always had an ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, and comforting words of wisdom. He led a humble life and enjoyed sharing the simple happiness's life brought him with his family. Dan had a passion for the outdoors, and loved fishing and exploring the areas along the Mississippi where he lived. He lived his life to the fullest, continuing to fight his battle with cancer well beyond his doctor's expectations. He will remain in the hearts of those who loved him, and of those he loved in return. The emptiness of his loss is filled with the memories and joy that he brought to our lives. At Dan's request, there will not be a funeral. For all those whose lives he touched, please help us to celebrate memories of him at a memorial reception being held at The Point Restaurant June 26, 2010 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.
