Clarence B. Balitz

Clarence B. Balitz, age 93, of Hastings died February 18, 2010 at Regina Nursing Home. Clarence was born April 15, 1916 in Hastings to Robert and Elizabeth (Bierden) Balitz. He married Leona Schmitz on June 7, 1939 in Hastings. Clarence had worked at the Hastings State Hospital as a cook for many years. He was active at his church, often making coffee for services and participating in the Tuesday cleanings. Clarence was a member of the K. of C. Council 1600 and the Lions Club in Hastings. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Leona, son Gerald, daughter Linda, and brother Robert. Clarence is survived by daughters Leilani (Bernard) Marek of Pennsylvania, Jane (Jim) Maher of Aitkin; son Arthur (Madelyn) Balitz of Florida; son-in-law Steve Keeran of Hastings; also 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. James Perkl will be held 10am Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth Street, Hastings. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. His grandsons are serving as pallbearers. The visitation for Clarence will be held from 4-8pm Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East Seventh Street, Hastings and one hour prior to the Wednesday service at the church.
