Charlotte "June" Hunecke

Charlotte “June” (Weed) Hunecke, age 89, of Hastings, passed away at Augustana Care Center October 26, 2015. June, the daughter of Ernest and Mary Weed, was born on June 6, 1926 in Minot, North Dakota. On June 24, 1951 June was united in marriage to Donald G. Hunecke at the Church of the Brethren in Surrey, North Dakota. June was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and great aunt. June’s passion was music growing up singing with her brothers and sisters and being a part of church choirs for many different churches. June was the sole surviving matriarch of the Weed family and was a surrogate mother to many nieces and nephews. She touched many lives and especially loved spending time with her family and friends. June worked for Dakota County for over 20 years. She was passionate about volunteering and freely donated her time. This included 40 years of volunteering with Hastings Regina Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, church choir director, Sunday School teacher and a Hastings Senior Center volunteer. She was also very proud of being a Cub Scout den mother to many children. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Mary “Babe”; Jean; Thelma; and Helen, brother, Robert; special nephews, Marion; Roger; and Richard, and niece, Joan. June is survived by her husband, Donald; three children; Larry; Stan (Betty); and Tim. June has seven grandchildren, Jamie (Aaron); Justin (Mandy); Jessica (Mitch); Kyle; Ryan (Ashley); Lisa; and Erin. She has nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday (10/31) at 11:00 a.m. at Hastings United Methodist Church, 615 15th St W, Hastings. A Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to the American Cancer Society. The Wise Family Funeral Home is serving the family. www.wisefamilyfh.com
