Charles Joseph Mastel Jr.

Age 49 of Apple Valley, passed away unexpectedly on March 24, 2025. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. & Marcia Mastel. Survived by his wife of 18 years, Kristen; sister, Meghan (Matt) Lucas; nephew and nieces, Ryan, Lauren, and Lindsay; aunt, Michelle Mastel; Kristen’s parents, John & Colleen Meyer; brother-in-law, Brian Meyer; many other relatives and friends.

Charlie was a 1994 graduate of the Saint Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights and graduated with a BS from Arizona State University. He loved cooking, baseball, and calling out the refs on bad calls at Gopher hockey games. He was impossible to beat at Jeopardy and most games. Charlie loved all 6 of the Mastel English Springer Spaniels throughout his life... all named Jiggs! Charlie’s greatest joy was cheering on his nieces and nephew as they played sports.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for later this spring. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the University of Minnesota Transplant Center, the Twins Community Fund, or the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum for a memorial bench by the lilacs, please specify “in memory of Charlie Mastel.”
