Charles "Charlie" Rother

Charles "Charlie" Rother, age 84 of Hastings, died peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2016, at Regina Senior Living in Hastings following a recent illness. Charles Gerald was born August 11, 1932, near New Trier to Edward and Cecelia (Schaffer) Rother. He served in the US Army from 19531955 and married Marilyn Doffing on June 11, 1955, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. Charles was the former president and owner of DLR Construction Co. of Hastings, retiring at the age of 73. Charles loved to winter in Arizona, play his favorite game of golf, and to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed time with his many friends and family members. Charles was preceded in death by his special son, Scott; parents, Edward and Cecelia; brothers, Donald, James, Edward, Leonard and LeRoy "Jiggs" Rother. Charlie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn; sons, Bradley (Gina) Rother of McKinleyville, CA and Dean (Shelly) Rother of Golden Valley; grandchildren, Rigel, Jacob, Tara, Shaynna, Heather, Sienna; very special great grandchild, Nina; step grandchildren, Sean, Brenden, Chandler and Chloe; siblings, Lois Bauer of Miesville, Raynard Rother of Welch, Marlene (Larry) ONeill of Byron and Sharon Tornes of Woodbury; sisters-in-law, Mary Rother and Katherine Rother. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 Fifteenth St. West, Hastings, with Father David Hennen, Father Martin Siebenaler and Father Thomas OBrien, concelebrants. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post # 1210 will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. Monday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 Seventh St. East, Hastings and one hour prior to Mass at church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church or Hastings Family Service in memory of Charlie.
