Catherine "Cathy" Berg

October 27, 1968 — November 21, 2020

Catherine "Cathy" Berg, age 52 of Maple Grove, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday morning, November 21, 2020, following a recent battle with Covid-19. Cathy fought hard through her journey with colon cancer during the past few years, but is now at peace. Catherine Mary, the daughter of Thomas "Tom" and Margaret (Fritscher) Shannon, was born on October 27, 1968, in Red Wing. Following her graduation from Hastings High School with the class of 1987, Cathy attended St. Thomas where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resource Management. On October 1, 1994, she was united in marriage to Kevin Berg at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings. They were blessed with two children, Matt and Megan. Cathy was a longtime employee at Ameriprise Financial as a Business System Analyst up until her health recently didn't allow her to work. She truly loved the friendships she gained there, and was always willing to help organize events and activities. Cathy loved her children immensely, and was dedicated to attending any event they had or spending a quiet night at home watching a good movie. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, walking, attending concerts, and always had time to visit with anyone she ran into. Most of all, Cathy's positivity through her venture with colon cancer never failed, and she was always there to help provide guidance to others facing the same. We all know Cathy is at peace, and we will forever cherish her bright and bubbly personality. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Alvin Berg; and by her grandparents, Helmuth and Regina Fritscher and William and Francis Shannon. Cathy is survived by her loving husband, Kevin; children, Matt and Megan Berg; parents, Tom and Margaret Shannon; sister, Patty (Pat) McNamara; mother-in-law, Joyce Berg; brother-in-law, Jim (Jonda) Berg; nieces, Jenna (Chris) Karpuk and Katie Berg; godmother, Mary (Dwain) Kasel; and by many other relatives and dear friends. A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. The Mass will be live-streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page starting at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings. As Cathy would want it, we ask everyone to wear bright colors as we celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, Cathy's family requests memorials be made to the family or to the donor's choice in her memory. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
