Carroll L. Manning

March 4, 1930 — October 21, 2010

Carroll L. Manning, age 80, of Hastings, died October 21, 2010 at his home. Carroll was born March 4, 1930 in Redwood Falls, MN to LeRoy and Fern (Batterson) Manning. He married Barbara Williams on October 20, 1990 in Hastings. Carroll was a man of integrity, with strong traditional values and work ethic. He was a member of the Teamsters and had a 30 year career as a mechanic with Southdale Ford, retiring in 1990. He was a devoted Christian and proud American and Navy veteran, having served our country during the Korean War. He had a great appreciation for nature and loved animals and watching the birds and wildlife that would frequent their Hastings backyard. He enjoyed driving cross-country on vacations to see family and friends and spent a number of winters with his wife Barb soaking up the Florida sunshine, as well as making frequent trips to Colorado to see loved ones. He liked fishing, country and gospel music, reading Westerns, tossing a good game of horseshoes and watching and encouraging his kids and grandkids in their many activities. Carroll was one of those rare, uncomplicated, genuine, sincere people who rejoiced in the simple things in life and most important to him was his family. More than anything, he treasured the time he spent with his wife and best friend Barbara, his daughters, grandchildren, family, extended step-family and friends. His sudden, unexpected leaving has left a huge hole in all our hearts and he will be missed so incredibly much. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Gerald Manning and Les Habel. Carroll is survived by his wife Barbara; daughters Pamela Preiner of Faribault and Paula McGranahan of Prior Lake; grandchildren Luke, Joseph and Levi Preiner, Logan and Erik Wang, Lacey Matamales, Luke and Laura Bundy; great-grandchildren Ian Wang and Jackson Matamales; sisters Marge Stauffacher of Hackensack, MN and Alice House of Apple Valley; and step-daughter Brenda Bundy of Colorado Springs, CO. The Funeral Service, officiated by Rev. Douglas Nicholas, will be held at 11AM Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Hastings United Methodist Church, 615 W. Fifteenth St., Hastings, with a visitation 2 hours prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will follow at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Pallbearers are Luke Preiner, Joseph Preiner, Levi Preiner, Logan Wang, Erik Wang, and Luke Bundy.
