Carrol Gene Tammen, 92, died February 4, 2026, 2 days before his 93rd birthday.

He was born on the farm in Clara City February 6, 1933, the son of Simon and Nelda (Haase) Tammen.

Carrol graduated from Clara City High School, class of 1951. Following graduation, he attended and graduated from Mankato State University in 1957 with a degree in English, Speech, and history. Later, he continued his education earning his Master’s degree in Mass Media at Mankato State University in 1972.

On June 14, 1958 he married Shirley Ann Sandau in New Ulm, MN. Carrol first taught in Gibbon, MN and was later hired as Librarian and Audio Visual at Park Senior High School, retiring in 1991. During his time at Park, he was the assistant coach for Girls’ softball, which included winning a state title. He continued his love of ball by coaching his grandson’s baseball team through 9th grade. He served on church council and as an elder at St. John’s and served as President of the Hastings Community Concert Association for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Mavis. Surviving in addition to his wife, Shirley, are his daughters Rebecca, Rachel, and Leah, 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

A service of remembrance will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 7 at St. John’s Lutheran, Church 202 8th St. West, Hastings. Visitation will be 1 hour before the service at the church.

Memorials preferred to Hastings Community Concert Association.

Shirley and family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the amazing staff at Hastings Senior Health and Living. The professional care and genuine compassion was a great comfort to us.
