Calvin E. Trost

Calvin E. Trost, age 86, a lifelong farmer in Denmark Township, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Mayo Health Systems Cannon Falls.Calvin E., the son of Harry and Josephine (Lothenbach) Trost, was born November 2, 1929 in West St. Paul. Following his graduation from South St. Paul High School, Calvin returned to his parents farm and was united in marriage to Rose Mary Helget on June 24, 1950. Calvin was a first class farmer and was passionate with continuing his familys farm which is now being farmed by his son, Jim. He was an avid hunter and also loved to fish. Calvin was also a self-taught mechanic and machinist and was well known to many farmers as the go-to guy to fix all types of machinery. He also enjoyed bowling, attending Oktoberfest and a good shot of Scotch with his family.He was preceded in death by his parents.Calvin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rose Mary of Denmark Township; his children, James (Deedee) Trost of Denmark Township, Linda (David) Jacobson of Forest Lake and Gwen (Don) Solberg of Lino Lakes; his five grandchildren, Darlene Zemke, Sherri Dunham, Jaeson Trost, Crystal Trost and Tanya Erhardt; his five great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Josephine, Noah, Maci and Grand; his brother, Francis Trost of Hastings; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth St., Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. A light fellowship will follow with desserts and coffee. Interment will be at Cottage Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 East Seventh St., Hastings, and also for one hour prior to Mass at church on Tuesday morning.
