Bruce G. La Pean, age 72 of Hastings, formerly of Arkansaw, WI died unexpectedly Monday, May 5, 2014 at his home. Bruce was born March 8, 1942 in Plum City, WI to Roy and Eva (Burnett) La Pean. He moved to Hastings in the early 60s and had worked at Armour Meat Plant, Brockway Glass and retired from Astro Reese Plastics. Bruce married Edna Riley on June 12, 1965 at St. Marys Church in Durand, WI. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cribbage and smashing cars, as in demolition derbies. He loved to laugh and be silly, and especially believed that families were made by love, not just blood. Bruce was a good friend, loving grandfather, father and husband. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Vadne, Vera, Elwood "Bud", Barbara and Roy. Bruce is survived by his wife Edna; children Michele (Jeff) Usher of Milton, WI, Bruce James (Diane) La Pean of Hastings and Timothy La Pean of Minneapolis; grandchildren Mikala, Yvette, Shawnn, Scott, Steve, Joe, Brian (Crystal), Nathan, Josh, Alexis, Mikayla; also 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Saturday, May 10 at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 East Seventh St, Hastings with visitation from 4-8 PM Friday and 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to donors choice.
