Betty Jeanne Ohman, 88, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 9th, 2010 at the Regina Nursing Home of Hastings. She was born to Archie and Clife (Daggett) Nimens on October 28th, 1921 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Betty was married to Robert Ohman and they were blessed with two children: Rick and Jean. Over the years, Betty became involved with the BPW, was an active member of the Methodist Church of Crookston. Betty enjoyed playing Bridge for card clubs and was politically active for the DFL. She loved to fish and enjoyed many summers at the family cabin at Lake Bemidji. Early on, Betty worked at the family business, Associated Heating in Crookston. Betty wrote copy at the KROX Radio Station and she taught English at the Crookston Middle School. Betty retired from teaching in 1988 but always enjoyed reading as a pastime. She is preceded in death by her husband: Robert; parents: Archie and Clife Nimens; and brother: Wilfred 'Bill' Nimens. Betty will be sadly missed by her children: Jean (David) Hume and Rick Ohman; grandchildren: Lissy Hume of Ashland, Wisconsin, Leah Hume of Hastings, Tyler Ohman of Hastings, and Madeline Ohman of Hastings; nephews and nieces: Julianne (Tim) Rubley, Tom Nimens, Mary Jane (Brian) Coe, Jay (Cyndy) Nimens, Jon (Shawn Hogenson) Nimens, Dr. Stephen (Cindy) Niles, and Dr. David (Lisa) Niles; cousins: Jerilyn (Robert Macmurdo) Fosdick Hirsch, Roger (Zelma) Rodeberg, Alan Rodeberg, Dr. Paul (Merry) Hartig and June (Dr. Gig) Given and by other relatives and good friends.A special note of thanks to the caring staff at Ruth Homes and Regina Nursing Home in Hastings.Memorial Service will be Saturday, October 16th, 2010 at 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Hastings, 602 Vermillion Street, Hastings with visitation beginning at 10am.
