Bernice M. Cole, age 74 of St. Paul, died peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis following a recent illness. Bernice Mailekuikahi, the daughter of Victor and Violet (Lui) Kelekolio, was born on January 11, 1942, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Following her graduation from Konawaena High School in Kealakekua, Hawaii, Bernice continued her education to be a Certified Nurses Aide. In 1965, she moved to Ohio to raise a family, and in 2012, she moved to Minnesota to be near her son, Victor. Bernice loved watching and attending various sporting events. She never missed any of her children or grandchildrens games, and even attended the Sugar Bowl to watch University of Hawaii. She also enjoyed singing, cooking, and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and one sister; and by her grandson, Camden T Cole. Bernice is survived by her children, Georgette L. Brown, Harold "Buddy" Cole Jr., Ida K. Westfall, Victor B. Cole, Violet P. Mayhle, Joseph C. Cole, and Scott A. Cole Sr.; her 18 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and by her many remaining siblings in Hawaii, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Bernices Life will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2016,at New Hope Baptist Church, 712 Burr Street, St. Paul, with a dinner following also at church. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the TSGSL Softball Team Sunshine Club in memory of Bernice. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, Hastings.
