Bernice A. Schaffer, age 87 of Northfield and formerly of Hampton, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday afternoon, January 18, 2018, at Three Links Care Center Reflections Suites in Northfield. Bernice was born January 19, 1930 in Hampton, MN to Adam and Susan (Kuhn) Schiller. She was married May 30, 1949 in Hampton, to Harry Schaffer. They farmed many years near Hampton. Bernice enjoyed baking, quilting, playing cards, and traveling with Harry. They traveled to many of the 50 states. They also enjoyed winters in Arizona. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry, a daughter Barbara White, and 2 brothers Herbert and Joseph Schiller. Bernice is survived by her children Charlotte Schaffer (Gabriel Rosas Garcia), Marvin Schaffer (Dixie), Joyce Thomas (Fiance Barry Kleinemas), Patricia Gounaikis (Phillip), Gary Schaffer, Susan Mulvihill (Tim); 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; and 1 brother Leonard Schiller (Sharon). Mass of Christian Burial will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2018, at St. Marys Catholic Church in New Trier, with Father Michael Tix officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be her 10 grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her 6 granddaughters. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings, and will continue on Monday afternoon for one hour prior to the Mass at church from 2-3 p.m. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
