Bernard C. Eckert

Bernard C. Eckert, age 92, of Hastings died Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Bernard was born January 18, 1922 in Miesville, MN to Louis and Margaret (Gerlach) Eckart. He married Irene Mamer on September 26, 1945 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. Bernard loved motorcycling and the freedom it provided. Everyone liked Bernard, who was known as a kind, softspoken man and was a good listener. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Irene and daughter Kathryn Eckert Johnson. Bernard is survived by his daughter, Patricia M. Eckert of Newport Beach, CA, two sons, William (Deb) Eckert of Hastings and Randall Eckert of Prescott, WI; three grandchildren, Katrina (Matt) Smith, Nicholas P. Johnson and Allison Eckert; one sister Marguerita Marschall of Hastings; also many other family and friends. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Cole Kracke will be held 10:30 AM Monday, July 28 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 Fifteenth St. West, Hastings. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers are Steve Bauer, Tom Coen, Don Gerlach, Nicholas Johnson, Jay Nichols and Bob Raway.
