Barbara J. EilersBarbara Jane Eilers of Hastings, an active hospital volunteer worker, died Oct. 1, 2007, in Hastings. She was 88.She was born Jan, 7, 1919, in Liscomb, Iowa, the daughter of Lyman and Margaret E. (Stout) Schryver.She married Charles W. Eilers May 29, 1940, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua,Iowa. She was a retired clerk for the Chicago Northwestern railroad. She was an active volunteer, completing 37 years of service at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs,Iowa. She helped to organize the hospital auxiliary and was on the hospital's board of directors. She was the president of the Women's Christian Association, was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Council Bluffs.The family lived in Lincoln, Cedar Falls, Dubuque, and Council Bluff, Iowa, and Hastings.She is survived by sons, Delos (Karen) Eilers, James (Susan) Eilers, David Eilers; daughter in law, Brenda Eilers; grandchildren, Kathryn Eilers (Scott Smallidge), Elizabeth (Dennis) Cronin, Margaret Eilers (Jonathan Butwinick), Aaron (Melissa) Eilers, Rebecca Eilers, Robert (Amanda) Eilers, Laura Eilers, Benjamin Eilers; great grandchildren, Marinna and Kyra Smallidge; Nicole, Matthew and AJ Cronin, Elijah Butwinick and Emma Eilers; and brother, Jerry (Wilda) Schryver. She was preceded in death by husband, Charles Eilers; son, Bruce D. Eilers; and her parents. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the Woodbury United Methodist Church, 7465 Steepleview Road., Woodbury. A visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service.
