Anthony J. "Tony" Langenfeld Sr., age 88, of Hastings, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the Regina Medical Center.Tony, the son of Frank and Anna (Leifeld) Langenfeld, was born on January 18, 1926 on the farm near Vermillion. He attended the local country one-room school and was later drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After his honorable discharge, Tony returned home and continued his education at the Ag School at the U of M and graduated as the President of his class in 1949. On January 2, 1960, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Kostenik at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. They dedicated themselves to raising their five children and to the many different religious outreach opportunities they took part in around the Twin Cities area. Tony worked as a Director of the Youth Faith Formation for the Minneapolis/St. Paul Archdiocese, as well as a District Manager for Na-Churs Liquid Plant Fertilizer. He enjoyed playing his accordion and harmonica, and was also known for yodeling too. Tony enjoyed spending time in his yard landscaping and tending to his flowers. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus 1600, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, and the "People of Praise" covenant community. Tony was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Nick, Henry, Frank, Leo, Greg, Aloysius, Bernard, Margaret Reuter, Anna Raway, Rosemary Kieffer, and Martha Ellingson. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth of Hastings; children, Tony Jr., Paul, Mark, Todd and Mary Langenfeld; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. May he rest in peace with God forever. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 West Fifteenth Street, in Hastings with Father Cole Kracke, officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210will be held at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Monday at church.Arrangements are being completed by the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services in Hastings.
